Tran Quoc Pagoda
Tran Quoc Pagoda
Located on a small island in the West Lake, Tran Quoc Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Hanoi Capital.
At first, Tran Quoc Pagoda was built in Y Hoa Village near the bank of the Red River by King Ly Nam De (544-548). Its first name was Khai Quoc (Founding of the Nation).
In 1615, the Red river bank fell down and the Pagoda was rebuilt on the old foundation of Thuy Hoa Palace (in Ly Dynasty) or Han Nguyen Palace (in Tran Dynasty) as it is at the moment.
In the early Nguyen Dynasty, it was more beautified with many bells and statues. In 1842, The King Thieu Tri renamed it into Tran Bac (Guarding the North). However, the name of Tran Quoc, used since the reign of King Le Hy Tong(1680-1705), is also currently used at the moment.
In 1998, the old tower was rebuilt on an area of 10.5m2 with 11 storeys. It is 15m tall. Each storey has six arch-formed gates. Each gate has a Buddha Amitabha statue made of precious stone. The 66 statues and nine lotus shaped lamps make the tower stunning. Its charming architecture and romantic scenery of the peaceful lake go on well with each other. Especially, the Buddha tree which was brought by Indian president and planted by Ho Chi Minh president makes the pagoda more charming.

Testimonials
Dear Ms Helen Pham
We had a wonderful amazing trip and will return as soon as we can afford it again. Thank you so much! I will write a great review on tripadvisor. Really the guides and hotels and tours were awesome. Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr. Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was absolutely the best guide ever...Read more
