Tay Phuong pagoda

vietnam tours

Located in Yen village, Thach That district, Tay Phuong pagoda is about 40 km from Hanoi city centre and just 6 km from Thay Pagoda. These pagodas in charming countryside are a great stop in Hanoi.

Built in the 8th century and experienced some restorations, the pagoda is now bearing the Sino-Vietnamese character 三(Tam means three) with three sections: the upper sanctuary, the rear palace and lobby rooms.

the three sections symbolize the three forces governing the world. With a directing role, the central is consequently built higher than the others. It symbolizes the Heaven. The rear plays the role of a foundation, symbolizing the Earth. The lobby stands in front with the meaning - the world of man. The whole structure is the symbol of the Prime Principle, from which the whole world derives (Thai Cuc ). The double tier of the roof symbolizes the double principle: yin and yang. It is also called yin and yang tier.

The most outstanding of Tay Phuong pagoda is the Vietnamese woodcarving art for the decoration and statues. Beautifully sculpted motifs are mulberry leat Ficus leat lotus flower, chrysanthemum; dragon, phoenix... Coming inside, you will be attracted by amazing wooden statues of Buddhas as Vajrapanis (Kim Cuong) and 18 Arhats (La Han) who are middle-ranking Buddhist deities..... This is an amazing musuem of the world carving art.

Testimonials

Dear Ms Helen Pham
We had a wonderful amazing trip and will return as soon as we can afford it again. Thank you so much! I will write a great review on tripadvisor. Really the guides and hotels and tours were awesome. Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr. Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was absolutely the best guide ever...Read more
