Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum is the starting point of huge Ho Chi Minh complex including Ho Chi Minh house on stilt, presidential palace and one pillar pagoda.

In his will, Ho Chi Minh President wished to be cremated and buried in Vietnamese traditional way. However, in honor of his huge dedication to the country, the Vietnamese Government decided to keep his body so that the next generations can come and visit him.

On September 2nd, 1973, the mausoleum started being built in Ba Dinh Square, where he declared the independence and freedom for Vietnam on September 2nd, 1945. It was September 2nd, 1969 he passed away. The construcion materials like marble and granite stone, sand, wood... were carried from different parts of Vietnam in the way that Vietnamese people paid respect to their old father.

The mausoleum is surrounded by 79 cycad trees, symbolizing Uncle Ho's 79 springs of life and two bamboo ranges on the two sides. When entering the mausoleum, the first thing visitors see is Ho Chi Minh's quotation "Khong Co Gi Quy Hon Doc Lap Tu Do" (Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom). In the second store, visitors see Ho Chi Minh sleeping in the simple clothes as he was alive.

Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr. Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was absolutely the best guide ever...Read more
