Thay Pagoda
Thay Pagoda
Thay pagoda is located at the foot of Sai Son Mountain in Thuy Khe Village, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi. The mountain has a few old pagodas. The most important and famous of all is Thay Pagoda.
Thay pagoday was built under Ly dynasty for worshipping both the Buddhas and Tu Dao Hanh. He is considered as the most famous monk with supernatural powers in Vietnam.
Just about 30 km form Hanoi, Sai Son village is a great destination for both Vietnamese people and foreign tourists. For foreigners, this village is so charming with perfect combination of scenic limestone mountains, a romantic lake (Long Tri lake) with a big house in the middle. Water puppets shows are performed at yearly festivals in this house. Nearby, there are two old wooden bridges with curved tiled roofs. It is such a beautiful countryside.
For the Vietnamese, Thay pagoda is a holy place. They come to worship both Buddha and the monk, Tu Dao Hanh who is considered as three most respected persons: The doctor who cured Vietnamese patients, the teacher trained Vietnamese people how to read and how to do good farming. Besides, he was the inventor of water puppetry. Thay pagoda and Tay Phuong pagada are great destinations in Hanoi.

Testimonials

We had a wonderful amazing trip and will return as soon as we can afford it again. Thank you so much! I will write a great review on tripadvisor. Really the guides and hotels and tours were awesome. Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr. Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was absolutely the best guide ever...Read more
