Perfume Pagoda

best vietnam tours

Located in Huong Son Commune, My Duc District, Hanoi, Perfume Pagoda is in a big complex of Buddhist temples and shrines. It is built inside Huong Tich limestone cave. Therefore, in Vietnam it is called Huong Tich pagoda.

Its religious festival draws a large number of pilgrims from across Vietnam for three months after Tet holiday. It is a stunning destination for tourists as well.

After 2.5 hour driving just 65 km from Hanoi city, you will get to Huong Son Commune. Be surprised at the charming scenery is what tourists have experienced. However, it is just the begining.

First, you take a sampan rowed by a local lady along Yen river. Stop to visit Trinh temple built in 15th century for worshiping one of four most important Vietnamese gods. Continue your cruise along green rice fields offering many beautiful photos.

After one hour, you arrive Thien Tru pagoda. It is an old pagoda in charming nature. However, the orignal pagoda was destroyed by the French soldiers in 1947. It was rebuilt in 1986 and completed in some years later. Surely, bring an extra memory card for beautiful photos. This pagoda is believed to be the first built in the 1400s in the huge complex.

After Thien Tru, enjoy beautiful view along 1 hour trekking. During your trek, you will pass some pagodas and temples like Tien Son, Giai Oan, Cua Vong... In the end, you arrive at a big limestone cave called Huong Tich. This is Perfume pagoda and this name is used for the whole complex. For Vietnamese people, we call Chua Huong (Perfume pagoda).

Here, many pilgrims come for blessings from the stalactites and stalagmites. For example, many people who have no girls seek fertility from Nui Co (the girl) and no boys pray at Nui Cau (the boy), while other people pray at other stalactites and stalagmites for prosperity including the Heap of Coins (Dun Tien), the Gold, Silver Tree...

Testimonials

Dear Ms Helen Pham
We had a wonderful amazing trip and will return as soon as we can afford it again. Thank you so much! I will write a great review on tripadvisor. Really the guides and hotels and tours were awesome. Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr. Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was absolutely the best guide ever...Read more
