Unique clay tunnel in Da Lat
Clay tunnel is one of the places that is attracting travel lovers to visit
when coming to Da Lat.
Da Lat, the city of thousands of flowers, always knows how to make people
exclaim and remember it because of its poetic and lyrical natural scenery and
attractive attractions, such as Datanla waterfall, Valley of Love, Chicken
Church, Langbiang mountain...
Not only that, Da Lat has a place that attracts a lot of tourists to check-in
which is the clay tunnel. This attraction is located 13km from Da Lat market,
about 30 minutes drive, at the end of Tuyen Lam tourist complex, and is an
attractive stop when exploring Da Lat.
The clay tunnel was built in 2010. This is a man-made marvel made of clay,
recreating the entire history from the beginning to the development of the city
of Dalat. In addition to the name clay tunnel, this tourist spot also has
another "nickname" which is the sculpture tunnel or red soil tunnel...
Opening Hours
The clay tunnel opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. every day of the week,
including Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, it will take about an hour to
visit the entire tourist area because of its large area.
During the rainy season, the tourist area may close 30 minutes earlier than
usual. Therefore, visitors to the clay tunnel should arrange your time for the
convenience of the trip.
According to the experience from previous tourists, the best time to conquer the
clay tunnel is from 8:00 to 9:30 and from 16:00 to 17:00.
The clay tunnel is located on the outskirts of Dalat city, so some tourists are
worried and concerned that the road will be difficult to travel. But don't worry
as the road is easy to travel. There are 2 most reasonable routes to travel to
the tourist area from Da Lat market: following Prenn pass and from the city
center.
- Route of Prenn Pass: From the city center, visitors go to 3/4 Street,
to the Phuong Trang bus station. Then, go through the pass down to the section
near Datanla waterfall, you look to the right and will see a Buddha statue with
a sign, then turn right to Truc Lam Zen Monastery. Next, turn following the
signs about 1km up a slope and you will see the poetic Tuyen Lam Lake right in
front of you. At this time, you turn right and follow the lakeside for about
400m and you will see a sign to the clay tunnel tourist area.
- Route from the city center: Many tourists choose to go this way to the
clay tunnel, because along the way, you can combine visiting several other
famous tourist attractions such as: Chicken Church, Hang Nga Villa, Bao Dai
Palace.
Along the way to the clay tunnel, you will pass through a towering pine forest,
looking romantic like in the movies. If you are a fan of virtual living, this is
an opportunity to take divine photos.
What is attractive about clay tunnel?
Clay tunnel tourist area includes 2 main themes:
- Theme 1: Like a “time machine” that takes visitors back to the past, the clay
tunnel tells the story of the early days of Da Lat city, from when Dr. Yersin
discovered and found this Lam Vien plateau, until the French colonialists began
to set foot in this foggy city.
- Theme 2: Recreating the most famous cultural works in Dalat, such as Lycée
Yersin, Palace Hotel, Pasteur Institute, Con Ga Church, Dalat University, Dalat
market, Linh Son Pagoda...
Records of the clay tunnel
In the clay tunnel, there are two unique houses in Vietnam, carved from unburnt
clay with the first roof embossed with the map of Vietnam and the largest area.
In addition, the first unburnt red basalt house with the most unique style,
currently holds the national record.
If you visit the clay tunnel tourist area for the first time, you will be amazed
by what you see, just a lump of clay, an inanimate object, can become a unique,
eye-catching and artistic sculpture. You will not believe that this place was
created by humans. Through that, you can see how much dedication the owner of
the clay tunnel has to make it happen.

Testimonials
Dear Ms Helen Pham
We had a wonderful amazing trip and will
return as soon as we can afford it again. Thank you so much! I will write a
great review on tripadvisor. Really the guides and hotels and tours were
awesome. Ms. Nhung was very sweet and refreshingly honest, very likeable. Mr.
Tam was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and funny. Probably our best "tour" was
the day we spent on motor bikes visiting the tombs near Hue. The bikes allow for
a much more intimate view of the countryside. And then - as I wrote - Mr. An was
absolutely the best guide ever...Read
