Cat Ba is the second biggest island in Vietnam and the largest one in Ha Long Bay. Half of its 140 km2 area is covered by a National Park, home to the highly endangered Cat Ba golden-headed Langur who is rarely seen. About 100 members are thought to survive in the wild.

The park covers both land and marine areas with a high biodiversity including 1400 vascular plants(23 in endanger of extinction), civet cats and oriental giant squirrels....... The national park of was recognized by UNESCO in December 2004 as a biosphere reserve of the world.

The greatest part of the mountain range on the island is covered by tropical moist limestone forest with 5 layers.
